Artists Statement:
I visited Gus Clark's studio the other day. He was very excited to show me something, but he wouldn't tell me about it before hand. When I walked into his studio, he revealed to me that he had painted over about fifty of his old paintings with colorful stripes! I'm a fan of stipes too, so he thought I would appreciate them. We spoke about how deeply satisfying it is to paint stripes, over and over again. It's as if we are satisfying some sort of innate geometric sense within us. For me flowers are the same way. Even though I might feel like I'm doing to death something that was already put to rest long ago, there is some sort of inner urge that calls me to do it all over again.
